The VisaŽ Cardholder Information Security Program was created specifically for any and all "card-not-present" merchants and service providers
who have access to, store or process credit card information. This includes merchants which take orders via the Internet, Mail or Telephone orders. This
program has 12 requirements
designed to enhance and improve your network security and prevent credit card information loss. Failure to comply with this mandatory program may result in fines and suspension of your credit card processing
privileges.

Visa intends to verify compliance by using confidential intrusion-detection tests. What this means is that, with a randomly-selected merchant's and Acquirer's knowledge and written permission, Visa would engage a trusted, expert vendor to attempt penetration of the merchant's firewalls. As is the case for the largest e-merchants, service providers, and entities that may have been compromised, Visa anticipates that any vulnerabilities uncovered will be promptly rectified.
